Yesterday's wind continued with increasing force through the night. Despite our position high above the sea, we could see this morning that whitecaps had developed and wondered about our noon ferry trip from Santorini to Mykonos. A phone call to the travel agency confirmed it had been cancelled, which meant we had to find new accommodations on Santorini quick. We reminded ourselves how important it is to be flexible! By the time we figured out a place to stay for the next night, we discovered that the ferry ride was back on, just delayed forty-five minutes, so we arranged a hasty bus transfer to the port. The waves looked enormous as we boarded the high speed catamaran. The ride was rough at the start, with swells approaching nine feet, but soon calmed and became quite pleasant.
We arrived at Mykonos Island by five o'clock in the afternoon. A hotel van greeted us at the port and drove us through the hills to our home for five days. We are just above Mykonos Town and have a nice view of the sea and the village from our room. After a quick dip in the pool, we headed down the hill with Jim and Stephen to meet friends of theirs who arrived on the island this afternoon from Kazakhstan. Leroy and I had a quiet dinner together at a simple local eatery (we are avoiding the many high-priced options available on this popular vacation island!) and are looking forward to several days of sunshine and relaxation on Mykonos. I'll write more tomorrow about the island!
